Local
Activities
The main activity around Kinlochleven is the West Highland Way, Scotland's most famous long distance walking path, which
extends from Glasgow to Fort William.
The MacDonald Hotel is situated only 25 metres
from the West Highland Way, giving the perfect location for either a food or
accommodation stop along the way.
If walking from the South, follow the West
Highland Way marker posts through the village. We are at the far end of the
village, 25 metres past the point where the West Highland Way begins its climb
towards Fort William.
If walking from the North, the hotel is clearly
seen where the footpath reaches the main road into the village.
There are a number of other activities in and around Kinlochleven
which are easily accessible from the
hotel:
- Climbing
- There are ten Munros in the Mamore Mountains
which rise from Kinlochleven. Beyond these are innumerable challenges for
all types of climbers.
- Walking
- There are numerous well formed paths into the
hills behind Kinlochleven, not least the West Highland Way. Another path passes the old aluminium factory's tailrace up to the Black Water Dam, an hours trek from the MacDonald Hotel, in Kinlochleven.
- Walks around Fort William and the Lochaber area
- The Ice Factor
-
The world's largest indoor ice climbing site is
located 800 metres along the road from the MacDonald Hotel.
